The Barn at Herons Farm Wedding Photography
A beautiful bride, a handsome groom, a lovely little church, an old red London bus and a romantic old barn in the middle of the Berkshire countryside, what more does a wedding need? Lora & Matt booked us way back in September 2013. Lora booked us without even meeting us, which is always interesting for us as you never know how couples will turn out. I didn’t get to meet them both until just before the wedding, when I went to see the Barn at Herons Farm Weddings for a venue visit. I loved the venue and loved their plans for their wedding day. Even though they’d booked without meeting us, they were a perfect fit for our style of photography.
The wedding day started at home with some superb hair and makeup and some creative photography looking through windows, veils etc. I must admit, Carol and I are always challenging each other with our photography to get the best shots. It keeps us both on top of our game.
Arriving at the church, I was a little worried things were going to become difficult, the vicar wasn’t very keen on the idea of me sitting just behind her to the side. However, Lee the videographer (Iconic Image) came to my rescue, as he already had his tripod set up there and was going to be standing there too, working it. So she could hardly not allow me there too. I pointed out to her that my camera has an almost silent shutter and I most certainly wouldn’t be jumping up and down during the service, I’m a discreet unobtrusive documentary wedding photographer – not one of those old style wedding photographers with 3 cameras strapped to their body and a flashgun going off every 2 seconds (I couldn’t bear to work like that). So I settled into my position. Made life interesting as Lora was walking along the aisle with her dad, I had to get on my knees and try and capture the shot between the vicar and Matt – without being noticed. I managed to get the shot, so that was great.

On leaving the church, we managed to capture some fabulous confetti shots of Lora & Matt. I especially like the one where I was very low down, looking upwards, as it gives a whole new angle to the scene. They then made their way to their wedding car – a single decker London Bus – just for the two of them. I really love the shot I managed to capture of Lora in the window – with the Used Tickets sign, I think it’s the type of image that appeal to creative wedding photographers, because it contains interesting reflections, which frame the bride perfectly, with other interesting details in the shot. Carol shared the journey on the bus with Lora & Matt so she could capture some couple shots on the journey, while I took the car to the Barn at Heron’s Farm. I arrived before them and had the chance to capture some little detail shots of how they’d set up the venue. Really lovely wedding details. Carol and I both appreciate people who care about their wedding styling touches, it’s exactly what we used to do on fashion shoots and on Wedding magazine when Carol used to work there. Careful and clever styling can transform how things look in pictures. Add great emotional faces and you have the perfect wedding to photograph.
This is only a short collection of images from Lora & Matt’s Herons Farm wedding. Their final gallery included over 700 beautiful images. If you’d like to see their whole wedding please Get in Touch.
