Farnham Castle

Farnham Castle Wedding

Over the last  couple of years, Farnham Castle has made some incredible changes as a venue. Every time I shoot there I get a surprise as another big improvement has been made to this beautiful old building. It’s always been a lovely venue, and very local to us too. Farnham is just under 8 miles away from our home, and we consider it our local town, so it’s always nice for us to get a booking there.

My day started with Emma and her bridesmaids getting ready in the newly refurbished Gate House. Where the venue has created five dressing rooms specially made for the purpose of getting ready on your big day, which are all very tastefully decorated. It was a great place to get ready as it’s only a short walk to the ceremony, which was held in the newly refurbished Lantern Hall, a stunning looking room with lots of light, which makes for great pictures.

After the ceremony, guests moved onto drinks in the Stone Hall and had the opportunity to walk around the lovely lawn in front of the Castle, in the later September sunshine.  I took the opportunity to take the couple off for a few minutes, to shoot some portraits of them around the old ruins of the Norman Keep. I’m always amazed how much couples enjoy this break away from the wedding. It’s quite often the first chance after the ceremony, that they’ve been alone together to chat. Luckily I’m too busy looking at photo opportunities to listen in, but it’s nice to see them relax together. I never put pressure on my couples to pose in any kind of weird position, it’s much better to simply watch how they both react to one another and capture the happiness on their faces as naturally as possible.

Later on guests were invited into the Great Hall, a truly spectacular room, where the wedding breakfast is served. At this point in the day, I find myself a comfortable seat and start downloading the images I’ve shot so far onto the laptop and begin a very quick mini-edit. My wedding images are always manipulated in post processing to some extent. Some images look so different when I convert them to B&W and start to bring out the best in them. So having the opportunity, to take a peek at this stage is always fun for me. Time permitting, I also like to create a small slideshow of around 20-30 images to show on the laptop to guests in the evening as a taster of things to come. It gives me a really good feeling to see how guests react to this quick preview. You know before you’ve even done that full edit (which takes me 3 days back in the office) that the wedding is already going to be another great set of images.

I hope you enjoy looking through this Farnham Castle wedding. Do note, that this is a condensed set of images from Emma & Jamies’s wedding, their final collection contains over 600 images, a full mixture of colour and black and white. If you are planning a wedding at Farnham Castle, then hopefully these images will provide some inspiration and ideas for how your own wedding could look there.
