They were one of the many couples hit by the Covid pandemic. They chose to get married in church on their original wedding date, but then to hold a second celebration two years later at Silchester Farm. I've included three of the photos from their church ceremony at the bottom of this blog post, as they are just too good not to share. The light in the church that day was magnificent.

Christina and Craig were great fun to be around, they had a blast with their family and guests. I think I will always have an affinity for a Scottish wedding, as my mother was half Scottish so it's in my blood.

These two were great fun on the day. A very relaxed wedding that all the guests enjoyed. It was our first time shooting at Somersbury Barn and we'd love to return there to shoot more weddings. The venue just has a really nice laid back feel, which is very much suited to the way we capture wedding. Set in the glorious Surrey countryside, surrounded by 30 acres of ancient oak woodland, with wildflower meadows and a pond. Accessed from a private tree lined track, the venue is a little haven away from it all.

- [Stephanie & Tim – Southdowns Manor](https://tansleyphotography.co.uk/stephanie-tim-southdowns-manor/): Tim and Stephanie were married last May at the lovely Southdowns Manor near Petersfield. They had a glorious day, bathed in sunshine, which was perfect for their outdoor ceremony and the drinks reception later. They were also lucky to have the opportunity for some sunset portraits, so we took a short walk down the road to capture these. They are always worth trying if the light is good, as that light is just magical.

The venue is fully licensed for civil ceremonies up to 130 guests indoors or 160 guests for outdoor weddings on the lawn. The barn dates from the Victorian era and is a fabulous space for your wedding day.
- [Bingham Riverhouse Wedding](https://tansleyphotography.co.uk/bingham-riverhouse-wedding/): We loved photographing this small family wedding at the beautiful Bingham Riverhouse in Richmond. Carol and I love shooting smaller weddings, they are always more intimate. The ceremony was held in the Loggia Room at York House in Richmond, which has great light for natural images. After the ceremony, the couple then walked with their wedding guests to the nearby gardens for some champagne and nibbles from Fortnum & Mason. This gave us the opportunity to capture some group photos and some portraits of them. Plus of course the natural images of them and their guests simply enjoying the day.

The was James and Jess's wedding, the games were truly hilarious to watch. What's great is that all the groomsmen really got involved too. So much fun for us to watch and to capture.

On many wedding dresses they are hidden all day long under a long dress, so why not choose something you can really be relaxed in. Having said that, I'm a sucker for a beautiful pair of heels too, it's the fashion photographer in me, I love beautiful clothes.

New College Chapel in Oxford just blew my mind when I arrived there to capture Rachelle & Max's wedding last year. I grew up in the small town of Abingdon, just south of Oxford, so spent many years walking in and around Oxford. However, much of the beauty of Oxford is actually locked away behind the closed doors of the Colleges. I had no idea this chapel even existed until this wedding. Such an incredible backdrop.

When I met Kayleigh & Toby a few weeks before the wedding, I was happy to see that they were a very relaxed couple, that seemed to understand that they'd get the best images from me if they simply enjoyed their wedding day and allowed their emotions to show through. Documentary wedding photography isn't about posed pictures. It's about natural images, where the couple and their guests forget that I'm even taking photos. Sure, there's a few posed group shots and some couple portraits, but that's about thirty minutes of a wedding day. The other eight hours or more are all shot candidly - zero posing or asking anyone to "smile for the camera"!

The reason being was that Sarah had booked us because she'd already seen a previous wedding we'd shot - Gemma & Joe's wedding from September 2016. That was one of our favourite weddings that year. Sarah loved that wedding so much, she had studied our blog post and booked the same makeup artist for her wedding, Ausra @ Kristina Gasperas Hair and Makeup. Plus she'd also decided to get ready at the same place that Gemma got ready too - which makes sense, since Hannah's B&B (now known as 16a Winchester, is a no brainer really, if you're getting married in Winchester. It's just such a lovely little place - perfect to get ready for your wedding in the morning.

You couldn’t ask for better weather, or a more perfect setting, for an English Wedding in the Hampshire countryside. Carol and I are big fans of Gilbert White’s House in Selborne, it’s very local to us and we were delighted when Fleur got in touch to ask us to shoot her and Ben’s wedding. They had been guests at a wedding we shot two years ago. So they already had a good idea of how we work - unobtrusively, with no interference to the flow of the wedding day. The only time we ever ask couples to pose for a picture is for family group shots. Even our couple portraits are as relaxed and natural as possible with very little posing and direction. The rest of the day is shot entirely as it happens, which is key to telling the story of the day.

Sam had worked really hard to make a beautiful day for all her guests, including the couple's little boy who had a key role in walking down the aisle. We love this shot above as it's the type of image we hope families will cherish for years to come. We love the way Sam's Mum and Dad are looking at their little grandson on the floor while the kiss is happening!

Every wedding we attend is a unique experience, where we become totally absorbed in other people's lives for a whole day. Then absorbed in pictures of them and their friends and family for the following few days. That creates a strange phenomenon where as soon as you shoot the next wedding, you have to then absorb yourself in that wedding. So you forget what you shot at the previous one. During the busy wedding season, there's simply not enough time to go back and look at your previous weddings. So it's a lovely feeling when you create a "best of wedding photography" blog post at the end of the year. It gives you time to reflect back on all those fabulous weddings and the fantastic images captured of people's lives.

It is a beautiful venue, both for guests and as a wedding photographer. A series of adjoining rooms, each with beautiful features and large windows, make for great backdrops for your wedding pictures. Even in the middle of winter, close to the shortest day in fact, we still captured images we love from Ellie and James' big day. The new Canon 5D4 cameras worked well that day, with a 3pm ceremony, the sun had gone down by the time I shot the couple's portraits.

So my task was to create a story from the start of the ceremony through to the speeches, which were held during a high tea for the guests, in the gardens at Rhinefield. Of course I also took some relaxed couple portraits and group photos for them. But as always, I keep these very simple and don't drag my couples away from their guests for too long. I'd rather they were enjoying their wedding day rather than being with me having their picture taken in any kind of posed way.

It's another local venue to us on the Surrey/Hampshire border, run by the same folk who run Northbrook Park in Surrey, so we were really happy when Sabrina & Jamal chose us to be their photographers for their big day. We had several weddings lined up at Foyle park in 2015/16 and as this was the first it gave as the opportunity to see what the new venue was like and how it would work in pictures. Even though we don’t pose the vast majority of the days pictures (apart from couple portraits and group shots) it’s still nice to know the venue a little and know how it works during the wedding day.
- [Birds of Prey Wedding with Hawks, Owls and a Vulture](https://tansleyphotography.co.uk/birds-of-prey-wedding/): I really like shooting weddings at Farnham Castle. I also love nature. So shooting Birds of Prey at a wedding was a total blast. Sarah and Andy asked me to shoot their Autumn Wedding in October this year. I don't think anyone expected the glorious weather we had that day - talk about Indian Summer. As part of the days entertainment during the drinks reception, the couple had booked the Hawking Centre to bring along some birds of prey. This included three owls, a Harris hawk and Andy's favourite - a vulture. As a photographer, I'm always trying to capture the essence of the wedding day in interesting images. As soon as I knew about the birds of prey being there and how important nature and wildlife were to Sarah & Andy (I'm a big fan of all wildlife as well) I knew I wanted to try and capture images that showed off the wedding venue - Farnham Castle but with the birds being the stars . My task wasn't easy, as the sun was very harsh and the birds were mostly in the shadows. Also not easy to capture them flying. But, that's where 20+ years of experience as a photographer come in handy - and of course a touch of luck. I was so pleased when I caught some of the birds in flight - simply beautiful. Sarah looks a bit perturbed in the vulture pictures, but who can blame her - that's a big, dare I say ugly? bird flying right at you. Not really surprising that you're going to pull some expressions...

It just works so well for our style of images. Because there is lots of natural light bouncing around due to the large windows, enabling us to capture real moments, with zero intrusion. No flashes going off, no loud shutter clicks. We want to capture real life, as it happens. All of those natural smiles etc. The image of Emma above, holding her wedding ring, with a look of pure love on her face, as her new husband Steve reads his speech and her father puts his comforting hand on her shoulder is a perfect example of that. Our wedding photography is all about capturing your wedding, your family and guests. Here's a very small selection of images from their wedding day. Our average wedding in 2019 with both of us shooting was between 500-800 images. This blog post only shows 62. It's just to show an example of our style of photography. This is reportage.

Both Zara and Ali were getting ready at the hotel, so that gave me the opportunity of capturing some fabulous shots of Alastair as well as also shooting Zara's bridal pre. It's not always possible to cover the grooms preparations at a wedding, but will when we can and I always like the mix of seeing both the bride and groom getting ready for their big day.

Our documentary style wedding photography is perfect for guys like Ben. We don't force anyone to pose for pictures during the day, even for couple portraits, we will only do what the couple ask us to do so that they can get back to their guests and their party - which is far more important - and lets us get on with our task of documenting their wedding day in beautiful images. Working in an unobtrusive way, simply observing and capturing what's going on, is what we specialise in.

Sarah got ready at her parents home before making her way to St. Peters Church in Chertsey where her groom John was eagerly awaiting her arrival. The sun finally made an appearance during the ceremony, which is always a challenge to a photographer, as when you are shooting during the ceremony you obviously cannot control where the light falls! Fortunately, it created a lovely pool of light on the couple and mixed with the fabulous emotion in Sarah's face really makes these images shine.

It was our first time as wedding photographers at Slaugham Place and it was a great experience. What a wonderful venue to work at, with so many interesting photographic opportunities. The main part of the venue is a ruin, literally. But that makes for a very atmospheric feel, but is most certainly a venue where you need reasonably good weather. The weather on the day did almost spoil things. It threatened to pour with rain according to the forecast, but we were very lucky and spent the whole day outside with only a little bit of spitting to bother the proceedings. We actually think that the umbrellas in some of the images actually add to the feel of the day. Here are some images of Slaugham Place and Alex's bridal preparations at her parents home.

A good reportage wedding photographer will never ask you to move out of the way, smile at the camera, ask any of your guests to move, ask you to stop what you're doing and pose for a photo. None of that. It's all about capturing what happens, as it happens, naturally, without intrusion on your wedding day. To do this well requires a lot of skill and experience. Because we have to be constantly on our toes, always watching for when moments develop.

- [Loseley Park Wedding Photographer](https://tansleyphotography.co.uk/loseley-park-wedding-photographer/): Loseley Park is a beautiful Elizabethan mansion, 3 miles from Guildford in Surrey. It's a private home that is available for hire and makes for a wonderful wedding venue. The Great Hall shown in the image above, makes for a fabulous backdrop for ceremonies. Alternatively, weddings can also be held in the gardens or in the 17th Century Tithe Barn. The barn is also used for the wedding breakfast and the evenings events. Carol and I love shooting weddings at Loseley Park and we'd love the opportunity to capture your day for you both. On average I'd always suggest to aim for between 80-120 images in a standard sized album. But until the album has been designed by your photographer it's impossible to know the final layout of things.
